Arrogant Malaysia Got What They Deserved

I've wanted to post this title for long, but afraid of the backlash from many of you out there and I may be label disloyal to the country. Now I couldn't care so much, but to give a harsh lashing on our Thomas Cup team as well as our Badminton Association.

Prior to the Thomas and Uber Cup tournament held in Malaysia now, our BAM has been talking about how to beat China, how we would put up a team capable of competing with Chinese, how Lee Chong Wei can beat Lin Dan, how to conquer China's weaknesses, this is their year of lifting Thomas Cup after an 18 yrs gap and many more craps.

Yesterday they can't even beat a novice Japanese team, let alone of winning it. Before mentioning of other teams' weaknesses, I wonder is BAM really know where their own weaknesses are? It's been years since we've found a new talents, and maybe we have a few, but due to their limited exposures, the progress has been halt to almost a standstill.

You are right that China, Denmark, Korea and even Indonesia are still putting up an almost same line up as last campaign, but they are all of high quality, and capable of winning as well as dependable when needed. Ourself? Look at Wong Choong Han, Mohd Hafiz Hashim, and the 2nd double pair, they are the team's major weakness, yet no one in the BAM see this coming.

I'm not saying Wong, Hafiz nor Zakry-Faruzizuan are not good, but they are getting aging and worst of all they are not consistant anymore. When come to pressure they may be able to take it, but stamina wise they will lose out to their much younger opponents. For example, Wong Choong Han lost not because of skill, but because of the aging legs and stamina. Zakry-Fairuzizuan lost because they were unable to control their emotion on court. Hafiz couldn't take the pressure of the deciding game.

To win the cup you will need a more balanced team, not just to depends on our "WORLD NO. 1s" These 2 alone is not enough to win you matches. If Lee Chong Wei happen to beat Lin Dan, I just wonder if Wong, Hafiz and Zakry-Fairuzizuan or Woon/Tan (Correct me if wrong) are able to beat their opponent. Tan Boon Heong-Koo Kian Keat may or may not beat Fu Haifeng-Cai Yun, but the last 3 matches is already decided before it even get started. So to beat a more balanced China team, we have a very tall order, and almost impossible task of beating them.

So let's face it, Malaysia is still not equip to win the Thomas Cup just yet, and until they could throwaway the internal politics aside, they will never win the Thomas Cup again.
