Smart Tunnel Closed

Just wondering why smart tunnel suddenly close this morning. It has caused such a bad jam and almost grid lock in the city. Probably it's due to rain last night that DBKL afraid flood happen somewhere, and also water dispersion insufficient inside the tunnel.

Aren't we suppose to be free of flash flood when SMART tunnel completed? Isn't the main purpose of SMART tunnel to divert water into river nearby or out of city? Why do they always close the tunnel after heavy downfall?

I guess this is due to undersize, and incompetent finished product built. It also shows we always want something No 1 in the world, which is useless. This tunnel made its name probably at the wrong end and reason now - Most useless tunnel ever built. It only nice on name, but useless in its function!

AFAIK, the SMART tunnel is closed to divert water to avoid flash flood from happening. That is exactly what the tunnel is built for (diverting water when there is rain, and still allow cars to pass when the weather is good). So, unless you are saying that the tunnel cannot mitigate flood even when it is closed, it is doing its job fine.

The SMART tunnel was meant to be closed during heavy rain falls - although this really depends on how much rain water needs to be diverted off.

Perhaps this time all three decks were required to prevent a flooding of the city around the Dataran Merdeka area.

But at the end of the day, I believe that easing congestion is the tunnel's secondary role as compared to mitigating flash floods in the city being its primary.

The tunnel's main usage is to divert water to prevent flash-flood. It's secondary function is to be used as a road/highway.

Therefore, when it rains, and heavily, the primary function should always take precedence over the secondary function.

If flash floods did occur around that particular area, then you can contend that the SMART Tunnel has failed. Otherwise, it's doing it's job.
