Seatbelt for back seat passengers

Today, 1st of June 2008 is the implementation date for a new law & regulation. All back seat passengers must fasten their seatbelt or facing summon being issued against them! That's a relatively small issue as compare to what's facing them.

Government has said car manufactured before 1995 is exempted from this regulation. Just wonder how the police is going to tell on the spot what year the car's manufactured. I'm sure this is just another way created for police to "minum kopi". Or they want the car owners to bring their car registration card with them at all time so when stop they could produce their proof of car manufactured year.

This is a total unneccessary act and this already will cause public some uncomfort in a way. For example if an owner's car is manufactured in year end 1994, there's no rearseatbelts installed, yet when passengers wasn't fasten seatbelt, police stop to demand for IC to issue summons, then how could the car owner clarify that the car is manufactured in 1994? Police could always said the owner's lying and take them back to police station, and this will waste us, the tax payers' time.

So I would said the implementation of rear seatbelt fasten is a rush decision by this stupid government officers, and there's no plan to avoid the hassle could be facing by public. All they know is to implement some unneccessary regulation so we will have more trouble on road, and these thirsty policeman will have another Lubang for drinking coffee.

I am not sure how they going about implementing this rule but I do believe that it is important. My brother-in-law is alive now because he wore the seat belt in an accident he was involved in. Most experts also agree that Lady Diana might have been alive if she had been wearing the seat belt the night of her accident.

Adam Dilip Mutum,

Thanks for comment. I hope your brother in law is well and fully recovered.

What you said is correct. No dispute on that. My arguement here is how the authority determining which car suppose to have rear seatbelt install and which is not.

They have not carryout enough detail study and just rush to implementing a new regulation. This will cause some hassle to certain road users.

Like always, they would just implement some new rules without proper study of the case. So I can foresee lots of problem beforehand now!
